Can you give me an exact quote over the phone for repairs or service?
For some services we can give you an estimate by phone however, it is impossible to accurately diagnose a vehicles problem over the phone. Just as a Doctor has to see the patient, we have to see your vehicle to get a true diagnosis of what your vehicle needs. Once one of our experienced mechanics has had a chance to examine and/or test drive your vehicle we can give you an honest and accurate quote. Of course simple service requests, such as the cost of an oil change, or to replace items such as a starter, fuel pump etc.. can be answered over the phone. One of our service writers will be happy to give you those prices when you call.
How long will my repair take?
It depends on the extent of the repair and the availability of parts. We strive for “same day” repairs in most cases. If we cannot complete the repair, we can arrange for a rental car to be provided at discounted rates.
Can I get an appointment for service?
In most cases. We can always make an appointment for the diagnosis. Once we know what is wrong and how long it will take, we consult with you and make the best arrangements for your schedule..
What does my Check Engine light mean?
The most common misconception we hear regarding Check Engine Lights (or Service Engine Soon lights) is that you must pull the car over right away and stop driving. This is not entirely true. Do you need to pull over immediately? The Answer is maybe yes, maybe no. Pay attention to how your car is running and if the car’s temperature is hot or making engine noise or transmission slipping then yes stop and call us immediately. If the car is running fine and the check engine light has come on then you’re probably ok to drive the car until you can get to our shop in the near future.
The check engine light is an emissions-related & system’s trouble light that indicates a potential problem with your car. The ECU (vehicle’s computer system) stores over 200 different codes that could set off that light. The proper way of diagnosing the light is to hook the vehicle up to a diagnostic scanner such as the one we use here. This scanner communicates with your vehicle’s ECU and retrieves that particular code(s). That code is just the beginning of a diagnostic flowchart which we must follow to test certain parameters of a part or sensor. You can still drive the car, but get it checked out soon! What about the other lights on my dash? THESE ARE IMPORTANT!
Every manufacturer has different lights on their particular make/model of vehicle, but the most important lights to pay attention to are your Temperature gauge and your Oil pressure gauge. Coolant and oil are the lifeblood of your car.
Temperature: If your vehicle begins to overheat and the temperature rises, you are risking warping your cylinder head which could be very costly. It only takes a matter of minutes to run hot enough to warp a head!
Oil pressure: Your engine relies on the flow of oil to keep things lubricated and cool. Low oil pressure could mean damage to your block where bearings must be lubricated in order to run properly!
If either of these two lights come on, or gauges show their is a problem PLEASE pull over and call us for help immediately. Driving your car just 5 minutes with a overheated car can cause thousands of dollars in damage. Avoid expensive damage by constantly monitoring your temperature gauge and changing your oil frequently and if an issue pull it over ASAP.
Do you honor warranty contracts?
Well its no so much as we honor Extended Warranties as we will work with them and advocate for you with them. There are hundreds of Extended Warranty Contracts out there and while we haven’t dealt directly with all of them, we can get a basic idea of how good a company is based on their contract language. A good extended warranty contract will require new parts (you’d be surprised at the small print in some contracts that say they reserve the right to supply used parts!), will pay for diagnostics and will pay the average industry hourly rate. Do your research before buying a contract and by all means do not be pressured to buy one at the same time you’re buying your car! Shop Around!
I am about to buy a used car–how can I make sure it is not a “lemon”?
One of the services we offer is a Buyer’s Condition Check. We will look at every nook and cranny of the vehicle searching for potential problems ranging from previous bodywork, oil leaks, coolant leaks, window motors, door locks, tires, suspension, belts, hoses, and the list goes on and on. We will provide you with a 5 page written report of all the problems the car currently has along with a list of what expenses you will incur in the near future due to maintenance schedules. We also recommend running a carfax service and checking sights such as Edmunds.com for true market value of cars.
Do you have a towing company you prefer?
We don’t own a tow truck ourselves, but we contract out with different tow companies in the area. The tow companies offer us a discounted rate and we pass that savings on to you. If you have AAA, by all means take advantage of their annual free tows. If not and it’s during business hours call us and we will arrange to have your vehicle towed to Amazing Auto Repair. If it is after hours don’t worry. We have tow truck companies that will tow your car or truck 24 (twenty four) hours a day. For after hour towing: call Merino’s Towing at 512-450-2414 .
